One man was killed while nine women were abducted when Boko Haram insurgents swooped on farm settlements in Borno State on Wednesday and late Thursday.

Punch reports that the deceased who was said to be a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force identified as Alhassan Kwali was killed as the terrorists attacked two communities in Bama local government area, burning houses and carting away food items and livestock.

Three internally displaced girls, who had gone to fetch firewood from a nearby bush, were said to be among the abducted women.

The incident, according to local sources, has caused panic across the affected communities with many residents now reluctant to go to their farms for fear of being harmed.

The village head of Mammanti, a suburb of Maiduguri, the state capital, Mohammed Ibrahim, while speaking with journalists, said people no longer feel safe in the area.

He said, “They packed their bicycles near the trenches and started shooting aimlessly. We all fled our homes exactly 11pm on Wednesday night; they looted and carted away more than 120 cows and goats before setting ablaze no fewer than 100 houses. They also killed one of our active members of Civilian JTF, Alhassan Kwali.

“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid. As of now, we do not have a mat to sleep on, no food to eat, and all our sources of livelihood have been destroyed by these evil people.”
