As Nigerians mark the maiden celebration of June 12 as the country’s democracy day, while saluting heroes and heroines of Nigeria’s democratic struggle, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to extend dividends of democracy to his community, Otumara 11, Apapa road and Ojoniyun in Ebute-Meta (West) of Lagos Mainland.
According to High Chief Kalejaiye, Otumara lacks Senior Secondary School and the only Junior Secondary School, the Ilogbo Junior Secondary lacks modern facility.

He informed that, children had to be transferred out of the community to complete their secondary education.
He therefore appealed to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat to construct Senior Secondary School block and upgrade Ilogbo Junior High School and save Otumara children from exposure to accident.
He said, “On this democracy day, I salute the courage of Nigeria’s democratic heroes starting from the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 election, Late MKO Abiola, Late Kudirat Abiola, the father of modern Lagos, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President Muhammadu Buhari for his boldness at righting the wrong of past presidents and recognising June 12 as a National holiday. I congratulate all Nigerians and I pray to God to continue to unite us as a country.”

In a continued reaction, High Chief Kalejaiye said, “We are calling on the Lagos state government to give us dividends of democracy in Lagos Mainland, Ebute Metta west. We want Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat to consider building Senior Secondary School in Ebute Meta. As at today, the community has only Junior Secondary School that when they finished their Junior Secondary education they had to journey through Ebute Meta to Surulere to continue their secondary education. They are transferred to Surulere for the completion of the secondary school. In the cause of this journey; they are exposed to untold hardship and insecurity. They are exposed to accident especially Okada accident. Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Education had visited our community on inspection tour. They requested for land which we provided but we have not heard anything from them since their last visit. For four years, we have been agitating for the establishment of Senior Senior School blocks in Ilogbo High School, Ebute Meta. Under the former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, our community was given a health centre and we really appreciate him for that. This time around, we are begging Governor Sanwo-olu to reopen our file at the Ministry of Education and act on it. Therefore, on behalf of our amiable Chairperson of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Hon. Omolola Essien, the CDC, CDA and other members of Otumara/ Ebute Meta (west) community, we are appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Dr Obafemi Hamzat to save our children from exposure to accident and hardship and give us blocks of Senior Secondary school and upgrade the only Junior Secondary school in the community to make it conducive for learning.”
