Olusakin Babalola, Ibadan
Candidate of the National Action Council, NAC in the February 23, 2019 presidential elections, Dr Olapade Agoro has called on Yoruba leaders to rise up from their slumber and address the challenges confronting the country, especially the Southwest because things are no longer at ease.
The astute politician who made the call during a chat with neswexplorersng.com disclosed that the Boko Haram insurgents who escaped from the Northeast have found the Southwest an appropriate zone to perpetrate their devilish agenda of kidnapping for ransom.

Agoro., who is Owa Tapa of Itapa chieftaincy title holder in Osun state added that with the spate of insecurity and kidnapping in the Southwest, governors in the region were compelled to seek military assistance to curb the ugly trend, an act he described as last day horror of Armageddon.

He said philosophically that, “Any condition that makes an elderly person runs helter-skelter naked out of hid home shouting and crying for help indicated that there is fire on the mountain.”
He added, “Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria places the security of States on the shoulders of the Governors and the Commissioners of Police to ensure adequate protection of lives and property. But with the tensed security situation in the Southwest, which seemingly is beyond the reach and capability of the Nigeria Police thereby forcing the State Governors running to the military for assistance.”

He chronicled series of kidnapping attempt on eminent Nigerians, “The gory and embarrassing Kidnapping attempt on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State along Akure – Ibadan road; the abduction of a traditional ruler’s wife Olori Olukemi Agunloye along Auga – Akoko road in June 2018; abduction and killing of 52-year-old lecturer, Taiwo Akinyemi in 2018, the killing of another lecturer at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, Ondo State to mention but few must be seen as weightier than what Governor Akeredolu could handle reason he said admitted that the security issue is not limited to the masses alone when his convoy was targeted and his security details fled into the bush on Akure – Ibadan road”

“To curb the incessant security challenges, we must convey what I called, the Yoruba Elders Concerned Forum to discuss and find lasting solutions to the rampaging menace of kidnappings and other security issues on our roads, forests, villages and towns by those who having escaped from the Northern parts of the country now freely move and live among us.”
