High chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammad to address the growing insecurity and crime rate in the country particularly in Lagos state.

Since the #EndSARS protest was hijacked by hoodlums, Kalejaiye observed, there has been an increase in armed robbery attacks and other criminal acts in the state.

He noted that traffic robbery across Lagos roads are rampant while commuters are frequently exposed to attack by hoodlums who take advantage of the destruction of police formations during the protest.

Kalejaiye stated this in a statement made available to newsexplorersng.com on Tuesday where he appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammad and the Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu to do all within their powers to re-equip and motivate police officers to enhance crime bustling.

The statement read, “Of concern is the growing rate of crime across Lagos state which is highly influenced by the absence of police on Lagos roads and the destruction of police stations and looting of police armoury. Residents are in perpetual fear. They are frequently exposed to assault and armed robbery attack. Hoodlums are on rampage destroying public and private facilities.

Although it comes with a lot of sacrifice and resources, the time is now to rebuild and restore all the public facilities that were affected in the arson. We are approaching festive seasons which come with loads of burden.

We need police officers around to check crimes that are associated with December and to protect citizens as they go about their lawful duties. We need traffic officers on our roads to check road accidents. We want the Lagos state police to stand up to the security needs of Lagosians.”

Kalejaiye also appeal to business moguls and philanthropic to support the Lagos state government in rebuilding the state.

He said, “I am calling on friends of Lagos, investors and business giants to support Lagos state government and the people of the state to rebuild and restore the affected facilities. I am appealing to Dangote, Otedola, Adenuga and other billionaires to donate to rebuild the state. If Innosson Motors donate patrol vehicles to the police, it will go a long way in reducing the burden on the government.

If Dangote, the cement merchant, could sponsor the construction of modern police stations, the police and the state will be the happier for it. So I am appealing to everyone to join hands with the Lagos state government to rebuild Lagos and take it to a greater height.”
