To stem the tide of insecurity and cultism in Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, the council boss, Hon.(Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira warned the teeming youth population against cultism, thuggery and other social vices.

He gave the warning in reaction to the recent clash between rival cult groups in the area while stressing his administration’s zero tolerance to thuggery, youth restiveness and cultism.

Few days ago, residents in Ogunsami and adjoining Streets were enveloped in fear of violent attack following a clash between rival cult groups.

While condemning in strong term the clash and the menace of cultism, Apatira disclosed that some suspected cultists have been arrested and they are being interrogated and investigated by the police for possible prosecution.

He added that relevant law enforcement and security formations have been alerted to keep 24hours surveillance across the nooks and cranny of the district against possible breach of peace.

He however advised that anybody caught would face the wrath of the law.

He stated, “We warn cultists, hoodlums and street urchins to desist from fomenting trouble and subjecting residents to chaotic existence.

Our administration has put all measures in place to ensure residents sleep with both eyes closed. As peaceful as Itire-Ikate LCDA, we won’t fold our arms and watch cultists and hoodlums turn our district into a lawless community.

We won’t allow some miscreants to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that is being enjoyed in our community.

I am therefore sending a note of warning to those that might be contemplating engaging in unlawful activities to desist from such ignoble acts as measures are in place to bring them to justice.”

While reiterating his commitment to ensuring safety of lives and property of the citizenry before, during and after the Muslims’ festivity, he stressed, “The youth of every state are the fulcrum for development. And our youth in Itire-Ikate LCDA are no exception because they are peace-loving, hardworking and industrious.

It is therefore logical to say that they will not indulge in any activities that could jeopardise their future. And on our part, we will do everything within our means to ensure that their existence and aspirations are not threatened in anyway.

Dr Apatira

To achieving this, we appeal to members of the public to provide us with useful information and report any suspicious movement in and around the community to the law enforcement agencies.

Also I want to advise members of the public, irrespective of political and religious affiliation to put a stop to the habit of soliciting for pardon anytime suspects are apprehended by law enforcement agencies.

Consequently, a security complaint line will be forwarded to the CDC and various CDAs within the local government area in the case of an emergency or distress for prompt response and action.”
