Rt. Hon. Akinlade

Mojisola Lawal
A leading aspirant for Ogun west senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rt. Hon Abiodun Akinlade, has advised politicians to concentrate on issue based campaigns and shun money politics.

Akinlade, a three term member of the House of Representatives, gave the advice during an interactive section with news men in Lagos where he gave an account of his stewardship as a member representing Ogun west between 2003 and 2015.

Speaking on why he is aspiring to represent Ogun west at the Senate, he said, he is passionate about serving the good people of Ogun west.
He said, “I was compelled to aspire to the Senate having excellently represented my people at the House of Representatives.

After finishing a secondary school with a good result, you will be compelled to further your education. I was so passionate in getting things done for my people seeing the level of decay.

I left the House of Representatives in 2015 but sincerely speaking, those after me have not been able to match what I did.
What we need this time around is an issue based campaign and not what you can give in terms of material gifts to induce the electorate. It is unfortunate that this is what is used to determine the popularity of the candidate.

The truth of the matter is that Ogun west has been disadvantageous.
So my being at the Senate will avail me the opportunity to take Ogun west out of these things they have been denied of and provide them the good things they deserve.

We know ourselves in Ogun west. We know our background. And I will say, we should move away from money politics and focus on issue based campaign.

It is not enough for someone to come from Lagos west to Ogun west. As much as I don’t like talking about people like that but with all the advantageous positions he has held, I want him to come out and give us his scorecard.

He cannot buy the people of Ogun west with his money. We are more interested in what he has been able to do in his capacity as representative of the people.

In Ogun west, we know ourselves. Our people know the stuff I am made of. They are not after my money. They are interested in my competence and what I had achieved so far. Therefore, nobody can buy the conscience of my people.

Let the money bags bring their money, my people will collect it but they will not vote for them. I have the confidence of my people and I am certain they will vote for me.

Those of us that are true sons of the soil won’t want any crisis. We will do everything humanly possible to avoid any crisis and come out with results that.

People have been saying there is no unity in Ogun west. It may look to an outsiders that there is no unity but we won’t fold our arms and allow strangers to disrupt the peace we have been enjoying in Ogun west.”

Some of the achievements of the former Commissioner at the Federal Character Commission, during his stint at the House of Representatives as contained in a 2hour documentary, include facilitation of federal employment for over 750 youths in Ogun west.
Repositioning of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Construction and equipment of solar powered ICT centres in 18 centres across the senatorial district with the training of over 6000 students in hardware and software design and computer engineering.
In education, Akinlade facilitated constructions of tastefully furnished three blocks of classrooms with table, chairs and decent toilet.

He also provided scholarships to indigent students with provisions of SSCE and GCE forms to boost the morale of the students.
In health, he constructed primary healthcare centres to boost maternal and child health services.

On infrastructure development, the former commissioner of the Federal Character Commission, donated electricity transformer and substation to the constituents and extended hand of fellowship to Nigerian Correctional Centres by donating items such as sewing machines, beddings and other items that would make them useful to themselves and the larger society when they are reintegrated to the society.

He flooded the streets of his constituency with solar street lights.
Water project, he placed high premium on the provision of water supply. He constructed and commissioned water projects in various communities in the senatorial district.

In road construction and rehabilitation of Owode section of Owode-Ilaro road and construction of drainage systems.
Empowerment, agriculture and human capacity development. Provision of tricycle, pepper grinding machines, tractors and power generating set to residents to chiefs in Ipokia communities.
