The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, has charged youths within his locality to hold education in high esteem and get involved in community developmental activities.
The Council Chairman who was represented at the grand finale of the 2019 edition of Miss Somolu Beauty Pageant which paraded 21 contestants representing major streets in the Somolu and held penultimate Sunday disclosed that ‘Somolites’ are known to be people of excellent virtues, good character, intelligence with inner and outer beauty.
Soft-spoken Hon Salawu expressed his administration’s passion for education as he announced that the Local Government would give scholarships to the three best beauty queens to study at the higher institution of their choice.
Oliver Florence who represented Fola Agoro Street emerged Miss Somolu 2019 while Taiwo Olaide from Adebiyi Street emerged the first runner up and Ibukunola from Eniola Idowu Street emerged second runner up.
Miss Florence who went home with a brand new car stated that she will work for the progress of Somolu saying that she felt good to be crowned as the Queen.
“I have always believed that everything has its time. I appreciate God for the victory. And I am assuring everyone that I will work for the progress of Somolu community. With my new status, I will work to empower the youth.” stated Oliver Florence.
An insurance company, while Cornerstone Insurance PLC presented cheques of N200,000 to first runner up and N100;000 second runner up.
Eminent personalities at the event include Hon. Adeleke Adekoya and Hon Taiwo Ojomu who were presented with an award of honour as ‘Mr Innovative”
Streets represented by contestants include Okesuna, Adebiyi, Fola Agoro, Apata, Oyebajo, Oguntolu, Anifowoshe, Sholanke , Taiwo Oladele, Eniola Idowu, Oliver Florence amongst others.
