Ex-Guardian Newspaper Staff Down With Unknown Illness, Appeals For Financial Assistance

Mr Daniel Enumah, a former editorial staff of The Guardian Newspaper is down with an unknown illness and seeks financial assistance from the general public to attend to his medical challenges.

The ordeal of Mr Enumah who left the service of The Guardian Newspaper in 2010 started in June 2018, with his inability to get up from where he was seated in his 18, Iganmu road, Orile, Lagos residence.

While speaking with newsexplorersng.com correspondent, his wife, Mrs Patricia Enumah said since the illness started, it has not been easy coping with the medical challenges as her husband who is the breadwinner has been rendered incapacitated.

She said, “My husband pee and poo on his body and crawls around the house. He could neither speak nor recognise people’s face. He has been confined to his bed since over a year and since then his health challenge has been deteriorating daily. Every penny we earn goes to his care. We now owe over one year rent and the landlord is threatening eviction even other tenants are complaining and are afraid of being infected with the pollution. Although he is yet to be diagnosed, the doctor that comes around for his treatment suggested spinal cord injury and he prescribed some drugs but all the drugs he prescribed, we could not afford them. He also recommended CT MRI scan which I learnt even cost more. Our inability to afford the doctor’s prescription and pay his charges made him to stop his treatment.”

Apart from being traumatised psychologically, Mrs Enumah stated further that her trading business has been greatly affected and she could no longer concentrate on her trade.

She however appealed to the general public, “I am appealing to the general public to assist us. We need financial assistance to enable the family take him to hospital for comprehensive analysis. He has been at home unattended to medically for so long and he has not been professional diagnosed. We sincerely appeal to The Guardian Newspaper and Nigerians for help to help my husband live a normal life.”

Also speaking on the plight of her father is Konye Enumah who said she has missed her daddy’s lively disposition to his children.

She disclosed that since her father has been battling with the yet to be diagnosed illness, her family has not been the same and coping with the cost of adult diapers and feeding has been difficult.

“We now live in penury. We couldn’t afford drugs for my daddy and the house rent and other domestic expenses could not be catered for. I am appealing to the good people of Nigeria to assist my daddy to get back on his feet.”
