Following Lagos State Government deployment of enforcement operatives from KAI, Neighbourhood Watch and LASPARK to prevent return of shanties and squatters along outer Marina and Onikan areas of Lagos Island and sustain cleanliness of the areas, Baale of Otumara 11, Apapa road, Ojo-oniyun and its environs, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has commended the move by the State government, urging Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to replicate same in every nooks and crannies of Lagos State for even cleanliness and healthier environment.

High Chief Kalejaiye observed that squatters and illegal structures are common sight in every part of the State and are not restricted to Lagos Island alone.

According to him, they are not only noticeable but they also constitute threat to residents in all parts of Lagos state.

Speaking on the need for swift dislodgement of these illegal structures, he said, overtime they have become hideouts of criminals and spots for atrocious acts.

He hinted that, “Illegal structures and shanties overtime have become the hide-outs of criminals in our community. It will be a disservice to the good people of Lagos state for the government and its agencies not to extend the dislodgement exercise in Lagos Island to every nooks and crannies of the state.

For instance, there are shanties and illegal structures in my community as they are located elsewhere. So I am urging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tunji Bello to extend the operations to Lagos Mainland Local Government especially as festive period is around the season.

We want the Commissioner to deploy enforcement operatives to every part of our community to patrol and also ensure that environmental nuisance are prevented and shanties and illegal structure are demolished.”
While commending the efforts of the Chairperson of Lagos Mainland Local Government,

Hon. Rashidat Essien in upgrading infrastructure and curbing environmental nuisance in the area, High Chief Kalejaiye calls for a combine effort between Lagos government and the Lagos Mainland Local Government to attain a more healthier and crime-free environment.
