The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria has urged Muslims to intensify prayer for the development of Nigeria as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
The appeal was contained in a press statement by the Amir (president) of the MSSN in Lagos State, Dr Saheed Ashafa.
Ashafa, who felicitated with Muslims on the celebration of 2019 Eid-el-Kabir, urged them to be magnanimous in celebration.
He urged the Muslims to constantly remember the challenges Nigeria is faced with in their prayers.
“While celebrating, we must remember that many Nigerians are still in kidnappers den; many families live between hope and fear, some lacking food to eat. We must be magnanimous in celebration and remember the needy. We should increase our prayers for Nigeria for things not to get worse in the country.
“We plead with Muslims all over the world to pray harder and intensify supplications for improved security and poverty reduction in Nigeria,” Ashafa added.
The Muslim scholar also urged government officials at all levels to shun corruption as a means of showing mercy to the populace.
He also advised officials of the executives, judiciary, legislative arms not to misuse their positions.
While urging Muslims to reflect on the purpose of Eid-el-Kabir, he advised them to emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s submissiveness to Allah through his willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail.
He added, “We urge civil servants and officials at our three arms of government to show mercy to the needy by shunning corruption and ensuring equity. They should remember that they will return to God one day to give account of their actions.
“We use the opportunity of this festival to pray for the progress and development of Nigeria. We beseech Allah’s mercy on the country for an end to security, kidnapping. We pray for peace to reign in every part of the country. Eid Mubarak to Muslims all over the world.”
