Kalejaiye Commends El-Rufai, Urges Other Governors, Politicians To Enrol Children In Public Schools

Lagos community traditional head, High chief Kehinde Kalejaiye on Tuesday commended Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai for enrolling his six-year-old son, Abubakar Al-Siddiq at a public primary school, Capital School, Malali, Kaduna State.
The governor made the announcement on Monday via the official Twitter page of Kaduna State government in fulfilment of his promises to the electorate in the State in 2017.
Reacting to the enrolment in an interview with newsexplorersng.com, Kalejaiye said it is a clarion call on other governors in Nigeria to emulate Governor El-Rufai by enrolling their children in schools in the country.
According to him, doing this will add value and provide the needed security and standard primary education in Nigeria deserves.
He said, “The move by Governor El-Rufai is worthy of commendation. Not minding the insecurity in the State, the governor lived up to the promise he made to his people to revamp the education sector and having done this, he further proved to the people that he has so much trust and confidence in the system by enrolling his son.
I want to advise our governors to toil the path of El-Rufai. They should stop wasting our resources to develop foreign land. If the country’s education sector is adequately funded and well- structured, no Nigerian will want to seek education abroad.”
While calling the attention of the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the deplorable state of infrastructure in primary schools in his community, Kalejaiye said schools in his domain are not conducive for learning.
According to him, pupils are exposed daily to environmental hazard and low standard of education.
Identifying the affected public schools in his community, he said, “Roofs of these schools are leaking that when it rains, the entire environment become flooded.
I want the governor to pay a visit to schools in Apapa road, Ebute Meta (west) and see things for himself. Ebenezer Primary school is no longer functioning. Banjo Primary School, Livingstone Primary School, St Paul Primary School and St Peter Primary School are in bad shape and require urgent repairs and upgrade.”
He stated further that “I want the government to compel his cabinet members and other state officials including the Chairmen of Local governments and LCDA to enrol at least one of their children in primary schools within their community.
With this, they will be forced to pay adequate attention to standards in these schools and quality will be assured. If a teacher knows that a son or daughter of a top government official is in his/her class, such teacher will not misbehave and in the long run this will reflect in the quality of learning.”
