An Islamic nongovernmental organisation, Faith Unites Muslims Charity Initiatives (FUMCI) has called for entries from suitable candidates for the sixth edition of its annual age grade competition tagged ‘FUMCI Children award for Excellence in Quran and Hadith Recitation and Islamic Practice, 2020’.

Amir (President) of the organisation, Ustadh Abd-Muiz Zubayr made this known during an interaction with journalists at the organisation secretariat in Lagos at the weekend.

The age grade competition, according to Zubayr was conceived in 2015 to sharpen the minds and broaden the understanding of Muslim children between ages 7 and 14 in Qur’an and hadith recitation and also to enhance their practice of Islam.

He said, “The first edition of the competition was held in 2015.

But between then and now, the competition has grown in leaps and bounds with previous editions attracting candidates not only from across twelve (12) Local Government councils in Lagos State but also from Ogun State.

Our site is now open to kick-start activities for this year’s competition. We are calling on our parents and guardians to get their children registered to participate in this year’s edition which will be held in December, 2020. The competition is divided into five categories of Qur’an recitation (Juz Tabaraka), Hadith recitation and interpretation (An-Nawawi’s Hadith 21-40), Fiqh and Tawheed, Tahaddub and Salat with an overall category for winner in each of the categories. To register, qualified candidate can visit www.fumcinigeria.org and click on the quiz competition tab and respond appropriately.

Registration runs through the month of September while screening test for shortlisted candidates will hold on at a date to be communicated. We are therefore calling on corporate bodies and individuals that are willing to partner with us to get across to us via our social media handles or visit our secretariat in Lagos.”

Speaking further on the conduct of this year’s competition in the face of the global health crisis, COVID-19 pandemic, he said, “We are not unmindful of the global health challenge which has crippled businesses and other activities worldwide.

As a responsible religious organisation, we have done a lot to host this year’s competition within the confine of Lagos State government social distancing rule and safety measures on COVID-19. We hope and pray things get back to normal before the event date.”
