Mojisola Lawal

In his quest to ensuring a clean and flood free community, traditional head of Otumara community in the Lagos Mainland Local Government of the State, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has appealed to the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang (EFAG) of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources to evacuate blocked drainages and lagoon which pose a huge threat to the health of the community.

While commending the EFAG for ensuring flood free Lagos State, Kalejaiye appealed to the agency to extend the evacuation effort to the silt and drainages in Otumara community.

He stated, “I commend the effort of the Emergency Flood Abatement Gang (EFAG) of the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources for ensuring that silt and drainage system in some parts of Lagos State are cleared.

The efforts of men of EFAG are noticeable in areas such as Herbert Macaulay way, Yaba, Lagos Island, Iju Ishaga, Adeniyi Jones Avenue, Ikeja, Ikotun Idimu road in Alimosho, Old Iyana-Ipaja road, Agege, Alaba Oro road, Amukoko and Mushin-Isolo road in Oshodi-Isolo LCDA.

With this giant stride, I am appealing to the Lagos State Government and the EFAG to consider evacuating silt and lagoon in Otumara community and also complement residents’ efforts at ensuring that the environment is kept clean and flood free.

Over the years, flooding has been a major problem in Otumara community. The troubles residents are subjected to during raining season are better imagined than experienced. And since we are approaching rainy season, we are appealing to the government and its agency to step in and ensure that property and lives are secured.

We want the government to evacuate the lagoon and all adjoining drainages to avoid a disastrous consequence on human health and environment.”

While commending the efforts of the Chairperson of the Lagos Mainland Local Government, Hon Rashidat Essien and her team, he said, “We are blessed in the Lagos Mainland Local Government to have an indefatigable administrator and leader in the person of Hon Rashidat Essien and her team. She has been up and doing in ensuring that drainages within the district are cleared and the district is safe for living.

But the Lagos State government need to complement her efforts towards achieving safe and clean environment especially in Otumara community.”
