Lagos Govt Announces Receipt of  COVID-19 Vaccine

Lagos State Government has announced that it has received doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

 

Lagos State, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took delivery of an undisclosed number of vaccine from the Federal Government in the early hours of Tuesday around 4:00am.

 

 

Sanwo-Olu made the announcement while delivering his speech at this year’s International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and held at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

 

Earlier, on March 2, the Federal Government had received 3.94million doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford COVID-19 being part of the 16million doses scheduled to be delivered to Nigeria. The vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India was shipped to the country via the COVAX facility.

 

While informing that the vaccine has been kept in a safe place, Saneo-Olu disclosed that vaccination will commence soon in the State in accordance with the guidelines of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

 

The arrival of the vaccine will enable the NPHCDA to commence the vaccination of Nigerians in priority groups, starting with the frontline healthcare workers.

 

He however advised Lagosians to continue to observe all the COVID-19 safety protocols like wearing of facemasks, washing and sanitising their hands and observing social distance.
