Kalejaiye Commends Sanwo-Olu, SUBEB For Construction Of Classrooms, Car Gifts To Teachers

Mojisola Lawal

The traditional head of Otumara community, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has commended the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) for the transformation of primary education in the State.

While extolling Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing education and motivating teachers across the State, Kalejaiye thanked the governor and SUBEB for the construction of six classrooms for Banjo Primary School.

He however called the attention of the governor and SUBEB to the deplorable state of classrooms in Ebenezer Primary School also in Otumara community.

He added, “On behalf of the people of Otumara community, I appreciate our amiable and education- friendly governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing primary education and teachers’ welfare in the State. Also, I commend the Chairman of LASUBEB, Hon Alawiye King for changing the face of structures of primary schools especially for constructing six classrooms for Banjo Primary School in Otumara and equipping it with modern facilities and conveniences.

Our prayer is that our good Lord will be with them all.

Meanwhile, I want to call the attention of the governor and SUBEB to the deplorable state of classrooms in Ebenezer Primary School which is in a near-collapse state.

As it is, pupils at Ebenezer Primary School rely on the two classrooms given to them by Banjo Primary School to be able to sit and learn comfortably. I wouldn’t want the government to wait until the structure collapse on the pupils before action is taken. The safety of our children is important.

Again, I want to reiterate my call for the construction of the Senior Secondary School which we have been agitating for. Many of our children have turned to dropouts, street hawkers and touts because of the inability of their parents to fund their journey to Surulere to complete their secondary education.

Once the pupils complete their primary education at Banjo and Ebenezer Primary Schools and their Junior Secondary education at Ilogbo Junior Secondary School, many of them found it difficult to complete the remaining three years of Senior Secondary education within the district because there is no Senior Secondary School within their reach.

I am therefore appealing to the governor to grant our request for the construction of Senior Secondary school in Otumara for the safety and security of our children.”

While also commending the governor for gifting outstanding teachers and school administrators in the State cars, Kalejaiye informed with the kind gesture, the era of saying that the rewards of teachers are in heaven is over.

He said, “There is an age long saying that the rewards of the teachers are in heaven but with the gift of cars and motivating being accorded to teachers in Lagos State by the governor, it is obvious that teachers in the State will live to reap the reward for their labor while on earth.

On behalf of teachers in the State, I greatly appreciate the governor. Since the ancient period, teachers have unique roles to play in the upbringing and training of a child. With the discharge of these duties and adequate motivation, pupils will excel in their academic pursuits and moral character.”

Recalled Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu recently presented cars, among other gifts, to outstanding teachers and school administrators in the State at the grand finale of the 2020 Teachers Merit Awards held at the Sports Pavilion, Lagos House, Ikeja.
