Lagos LG Elections: Non-Indiegene Groups In Ejigbo Back Ajayi For Chairmanship

Mojisola Lawal

Non- Yoruba Speaking groups in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (ELCDA) have backed the aspiration of Hon. Peter Ajayi who is aspiring for Chairmanship under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos state.

The groups, in a statement co-signed by their leaders, Chief Joseph Okonobo (South South), Chief Ike Agina (South East) and Alhaji Abdulraman Nuru (Arewa Community), lamented the poor state of infrastructure and bad roads under the incumbent as reasons for throwing their weight behind Ajayi, adding that they were certain that the local council would experience rapid infrastructural development under the leadership of Ajayi.

They stated that since the inception of the current administration in Ejigbo, non-Indiegenes were completely excluded in the running of the affairs of the council despite their contributions to the emergence of the incumbent chairman in 2017, adding that they were certain Ajayi would run an all-inclusive government.

The statement reads ” In this coming local government election in Ejigbo, we are solidly behind Hon. Peter Ajayi who we know, trust and have seen performed as Supervisor For Revenue Generation during Kehinde Bamigbetan’s administration.

” We regret supporting the incumbent Chairman 4years ago because he let us down. The Non-Indiegenes are not carried along in the affairs of the administration despite how we worked hard for his victory both at primary and general elections in 2017.

” If you take a walk around the 6 wards in the council, you will hardly see any meaningfully development and socioeconomic growth. Our people are business merchants who have contributed immensely to Ejigbo development but the incumbent chairman kills their businesses with multiple taxation. No area of the council that you will not see a Niger-Delta person or Igbo or Hausa man, it is to show you that we are everywhere adding values to the growth of the community. We don’t know why we are sidelined from the affairs of the council.

” It is on this note, we are openly adopting Peter Ajayi as our candidate. He is youthful, brilliant, exposed and connected to draw more development to the council”.

In a related development, some APC chieftains and loyal members of the late Apex Leader of the council, Pa Dele Idowu (a.k.a Baba Ejigbo) have resolved at their stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday at the residence of the deceased party leader to offer their support for Peter Ajayi.

The convener of the meeting, Hon. Muritala Taningbola, the immediate past Leader of the Legislative arm of the council, briefed the Coordinators of the six wards and LGA representatives the reason for supporting the cause of Mr. Ajayi as the next Chairman in the next election.

Another Chieftain, Mr. Bayo Okunola, also gave a comprehensive and detailed history of Ajayi, describing him as a Loyal and brilliant party member who has contributed to the party at all levels.

Other leaders present at the meeting were Alhaji Anifaloyin, Mrs Bada, Mrs Amidu, Mrs Muda, Mrs Adekoya, Mr Rajab, Mrs Adebayo and Mrs. Bimbo amongst others.
