Kalejaiye Urges Sanwo-Olu To Implement Recommendations As Lagos Judicial Panel Submits Report

THE Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for Victims of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Related Abuses and other related matters has submitted its report to the Lagos State Government.
Receiving the report of the panel from Retired Justice Doris Okuwobi and her team in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Monday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians that his administration would implement the recommendations of the panel.
“This will help in proper restitution and compensation for everyone who must have been wronged. I want to assure you, a white paper will be issued. I am going to constitute a committee to review the document between two weeks and bring out a white paper.
We will ensure that the recommendations that will come out from the white paper will be opened to the public,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Meanwhile, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has commended the panel for painstakingly investigating and engaging victims of abuses particularly victims of EndSARS protest in the last one year and coming up with recommendations.
Kalejaiye however urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to ensure that the recommendations are implemented to the letter without any part of it being push away.
While speaking on the need for the youth to be actively engaged in the governance of the State, Kalejaiye noted that poverty, non-inclusion of youth in governance and unemployment are factors that led to the EndSARS agitation which led to the destruction of lives and property.
According to him, the state government must create an interactive forum between the state and it’s youth where they would the opportunity of airing their views and grievances.
He stated further, “The wide gap between the leader and the led and the rich and the poor are responsible for the EndSARS protest and other agitations. It is pertinent for the government to bridge this gap and address the grievances of youth in the country.
The Lagos State government is doing it’s best in carrying along the youth. We have seen how the government has compensated some of the victims of police brutality and abuses but a lot still needs to be done especially in the area of employment creation, poverty eradication and importantly, creation of a platform whereby issues affecting the youth would be discussed and addressed.
The last one year in the life of the retired Justice Doris Okuwobi led Lagos Judicial panel has been eventful.
We have had series of pathetic and gory details of how the disbanded SARS operatives dehumanized and extort fellow human beings.
We have also seen how some of the victims are either killed, incapacitated or pauperised.
But now that the panel has concluded it’s assignment and submitted it’s report, I am appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu not to allow the report to be swept under the carpet.
He must ensure that the recommendations are implemented and perpetrators of the assault are brought to justice and victims of assault compensated.
The governor must continue to write his name in gold in the hearts of Lagosians by continuing with his good works and ensuring that Lagos residents are protected from devilish security operatives.”
Kalejaiye, however congratulates members of the Lagos Judicial panel for a successful completion of such an important assignment.
