As part of his administration’s commitment towards poverty eradication and self-dependence, the Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, in collaboration with one of the most commercially viable banks in Nigeria, Zenith Bank PLC, has empowered over 150 youth with skills in digital banking and E-business.

The one day skill acquisition and empowerment programme which was held at the council Secretariat on Wednesday was part of activities to celebrate the birthday of an astute leader and humane politician, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira who turned a year older.

Participants were tutored on how to use and access Zenith banking App and E-business products including the Z-Money App to support small and medium scale enterprises.

Speaking at the glamorous event which attracted who-is-who in the business world and Lagos political circle, Dr Apatira said liberating the youth from the shackles of poverty and unemployment is very dear to his heart.

According to him, youth are the fulcrum on whose shoulders the future of the country lie.

He said, “This empowerment program is meant to empower youth district. It is to empower them with requisite skills that would enable them start a little trade without endlessly hitting the street in search of white collar jobs that are not available.

We believe that an idle hand is the devil’s workshop and we don’t want any of our youths to remain idle, hence the empowerment programme.”

Speaking further on his administration’s effort at curbing increasing rate of unemployment, he stated, “My administration is poised to curbing increasing unemployment confronting the youth.

When you build the youth, you build the nation. The youth are 65 per cent of the population and whatever you are doing without the youths, you are not talking about the progress of the state or the nation at large.

The essence of this is to bring an end to poverty and youth restiveness.  And one of the ways to achieve this is to come up entrepreneurship programmes.”
