Kalejaiye Commends Sanwo-Olu For Revolutionising Agric Sector In Lagos
Traditional ruler in Otumara community, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, has commended the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for revolutionising the agricultural sector of the state with the commissioning of the Imota Rice Mill.
The rice Mill which was adjudged the biggest in the sub-Saharan Africa was inaugurated on Monday by the Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari in Lagos.
Speaking at the official launch, Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the Mill is projected to produce 2.8million bags of rice annually with a capacity to create over 300,000 direct and indirect jobs for the teeming youths in the state and country.
Reacting, Kalejaiye said the state governor has delivered more of dividends of democracy to the good people of the State.
According to him, apart from the Imota Rice Mill opening up the Ikorodu axis to the world, it will also provide employment opportunities for farmers and residents as well as produce rice at an affordable price to Lagosians.
He said, “In almost four years of this administration, Governor Sanwo-Olu has given us a lot to talk about in terms of infrastructural development in the state.
To say he has kept to his electoral promises made to Lagosians is an understatement, he has surpassed his promises to the electorate in the state.
No one would have thought that such an impressive project like the Rice Mill could comfortably sit in Ikorodu but the governor has made it happened.
And this has been the case in other sector of the state’s economy. We have seen the transformation in the state education sector with the upgrade of the Lagos State Polytechnic and Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education to State University of Education and State University of Science and Technology respectively.
He has turned Lagos state from a one-University state to three.
The same is happening in the health sector with the upgrade and transformation in LASUTH.
Honestly, there are lots of projects to point to as achievements of this administration.
I cannot but commend him for a job well done. With the rice Mill, farmers will be more engaged while the town will be open to more business opportunities as many investors and businesses will come through to Ikorodu town.”
The traditional ruler, however, call the attention of the governor to the needs of his community.
He said, “Lawmakers at the Lagos State House of Assembly recently called for an upgrade of the five General Hospitals in the five divisions of the state to tertiary level.
While I joined in the call for this upgrade, I also want to call the attention of our governor to the deplorable state of Primary Health Centre in Otumara community.
I facilitated the healthcare but it’s present state is appalling. There are no medical personnel to attend to the needs of patients at the facility.
And if it is adequately equipped, it will lessen the burden on the Ebute Metta General Hospital just as it will attend to the medical needs of residents.
Since it began operational, Otumara Health Centre has recorded many births and attended to medical emergencies of residents in the community.
Therefore I am appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu to consider our request to give us doctors and nurses at the Otumara Health Centre as well as equip the facility for the benefit of people living in the community.”
