Naira Scarcity: FG Is Doing Everything To Normalise Situation, Sanwo-olu Assures Lagosians
Consequent to the scarcity and inaccessibility of the newly redesigned Naira notes by Nigerians, the Lagos State Government has assured Lagosians that the Federal Government is doing everything possible to normalise the situation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu who spoke through the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the tension and crisis was caused by the slow release of cash through Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, and within banking halls.
SanwoOlu on Friday, joined a delegation of APC governors that met with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, to deliberate on measures to lessen the hardship caused by the scarcity of the new currency.
Speaking after the meeting, he urged residents to remain calm, as the government is doing everything possible to normalise the situation.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had earlier ordered all commercial banks in the country to commence paying the new Naira notes over the counter with N20,000 daily limit.
The Apex bank also promised to put other measures in place to ensure Nigerians have access to the new currency notes released to banks.
