Proposed LASU Hostel: Kalejaiye commends Sanwo-Olu, Appeals for establishment of secondary schools

As Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu commences steps to turning the State’s ivory tower, Lagos State University (LASU) into a residential tertiary institution, traditional head of Otumara 11, Apapa road, Ojo-oniyun and it’s environs, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has appealed to the governor to consider an upgrade of existing primary schools and the Junior Secondary School in Ebute Meta west district while also calling for the establishment of Senior Secondary Schools in the community.
Kalejaiye made the appeal following the signing of a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement with six private property developers to deliver 8,272 units of hostel on LASU campus in the next 18 months.
He imformed that primary and secondary education are prerequisite for tertiary education, noting that it is the fulcrum and foundation for other knowledge acquired therefore much attention should be paid to its quality of teaching and physical structure.
He said, “Environment plays a huge role in knowledge assimilation and impartation. If the environment is conducive for learning, and the classrooms are well equipped, pupils will learn fast and the level of concentration will be very high.
This is why I am appealing to Governor Sanwo-Olu to consider gifting secondary school classroom blocks to us in Ebute Meta west.
There is only one junior high school which at the last check falls below what a standard learning facility should be. Also senior secondary school has been an issue as far as secondary education is concerned in our community.
Our children have to journey to schools in Surulere to complete their secondary education. The implication of this is that they are exposed to all sorts of danger and assault. I want to implore the government to establish senior secondary school for us so that our children will stay within the community for their education.”
On the impact of constructing befitting classrooms for students in the community, High Chief Kalejaiye said it would improve students’ academic performance, while the school would also move up in its rating in Lagos state.
