Akin Olayemi
A lecturer in the department of Fine Arts Department, School of Vocational and Technical Education at the Tai Solarin College of Education, TASCE, Omu-Ijebu, Oladeji Adebolujo slumped and died shortly after he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

It was gathered that within a space of one year, six lecturers of the institution had died of health complications and hunger occasioned by the non-payment of 65 months salaries and arrears by the Ogun State Government while they were paid half salary in May 2020.

The deceased lecturers include Tajudeen Tunji Oropo, Dele Asipa, O.A. Abogunri, Semion Mabadeje of Agric Department, Mrs. Benson and Oladeji Adebolujo.

It would be recalled that former Governor of the State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun in 2018 withheld salaries and subvention of staff of the institution for sixteen months following a peaceful protest staged to demand for a better welfare package.

When he assumed office as the governor of the State, incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun promised to address the challenges of TASCE workers but the governor seem unperturbed with the plight of the over-burdened staff.

Speaking on the plight of staff of the institution, a non-academic staff told newsexplorersng.com who pleaded anonymity said “Since he came to power in May 2019, Gov. Dapo Abiodun who promised during his campaign to address our challenges has not paid any attention to us.

He has refused to pay our 65 month salary arrears. In fact he is owing us five month salaries in his 14-month old administration.”
Reacting to the death of the lecturer, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mrs. Fisayo Olajide feigns ignorance of the death of any lecturer.
