Traditional ruler of Otumara community in the Lagos Mainland Local Government of Lagos State, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, has commended the Lagos State government and the people of the state for the establishment of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUST).

The State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday made history with the signing of the bills establishing the universities into law.
The Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu, Isolo and Surulere campuses was transformed to the University of Science and Technology while Adeniran Ogunsanya Colleges of Education, Ijanikin and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe changed to the Lagos State University of Education.

Kalejaiye noted that with the establishment of the two new state universities, Governor Sanwo-olu has created new ways of thinking and acquiring problem-solving skills for Lagos residents.

He added, “Tertiary education isn’t just about earning a degree. It is all about preparing our leaders of tomorrow for future tasks.
With the Universities of Education and Science and Technology, Governor Sanwo-olu has not only fulfilled an essential need, he has also created new ways of thinking and acquiring problem-solving skills for all residents in the state.

In few years to come, I hope to see graduates that are equipped to take over the world with new and improved skills in critical thinking, analytics, written and oral communication, and group problem-solving.”

Speaking further on the impacts of the Universities’ of Education and Science and Technology, he said, “It will be felt in the quality of teachers and technology that would be churned out of these two institutions of learning.

“In no distant future, Lagos State will have more than enough fully baked educationists and technologists. Apart from this, it will avail Lagos residents job opportunities and specialised careers in the field of education and science and technology.

It will address the dearth of teachers in specialised field as more teachers and scientists will be produced. The tertiary institutions will also complement the existing Lagos State University to produce quality graduates and importantly, bridge the gap in admission processes.

In time past, many qualified candidates were denied admission into their university of choice as a result of limited space but with this two universities, such challenges would be addressed as the universities will accommodate applicants that were denied admission as a result of limited space.”
