Traditional ruler of Otumara community in Lagos Mainland Local Government of Lagos State, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, has advised the Lagos State Government to ensure the protection of children from both physical and virtual harms.
Kalejaiye in his speech during this year’s celebration of World Children Day, observed that children are exposed to dangers not only in their immediate environments and places of learning but also on social media platforms.
He however urged the state government to implement the State child’s protection law to guarantee the protection of the rights of children.
He said, “Our children are our pride. They are our future and to ensure we have a brighter future, we have to take care of their present. This is necessary to secure their future.
May children have fallen victims of sexual abuse, child trafficking and street hawking because of poor government policies and especially broken homes.
So as we celebrate this year’s children year, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu must set machineries in motion to guard the interests of children and ensure they are protected against danger and harms at schools and homes and anywhere they found d themselves.
The government and its Ministry of Justice must also ensure speedy dispensation of justice in cases of sexual abuses against children and perpetrators of such heinous crimes brought to justice.
We have to make the world a better place for our children because they are our hope and our future.
Importantly, we have to teach our children the way of God and inculcate morals that would take them through life in them.
This is necessary to protect them from sexual predators and perceived dangers.”
While wishing Nigeria’s children a blissful celebration, he prayed to God to keep all our children away from devilish hands and evil thoughts.
