Polls: Shun Religious, Ethnic Sentiments, Kalejaiye Advised Lagos Residents
The traditional ruler in Otumara community in Lagos Mainland Local Government of Lagos State, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, has advised traditional rulers and residents in the state to shun religious and ethnic sentiments and join hands to mobilise for support to re-elect Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat for another term of office.
According to him, Lagos is working and has witnessed tremendous transformations in all sectors of the state’s economy under Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat administration.
Kalejaiye gave the advice during a solidarity walk held to enlighten residents on the dangers inherent in inciting people of different ethnic groups against each other in the name of politics.
He advised Lagosians to shun tribal and religious referendum and vote for competence, integrity, progress and continuity in government.
He said, “I congratulate Nigerians for coming out en masse to vote for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the next president of the country.
I urge the electorate to also vote for the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat for another term in office.
However, as we take a decisive step to vote for a greater Lagos, I want to urge us all to shun religious and ethnic sentiments.
This is not healthy for us as a state and a multi-ethnic and religious country.
This is not about tribal or religious referendum but about our future and that of our unborn generations.
Under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, we have seen a health sector that works with quality and experienced medical personnel.
Lagos has also witnessed modern transportation network and other social and infrastructural amenities.
Our youths, regardless of tribal affiliations, are productively engaged. Sanwo-Olu’s administration has also upgraded tertiary institutions across the state with solid investments in primary education.
This is not a time to be sentimental. It is a time to be objective about the choice of leader we elect into office so as not to set the state on the path of retrogression in the next four years.”
High Chief Kalejaiye also tasked traditional institutions across the state to sensitise residents in their domain on why Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat ticket is the best option for Lagosians.
He said, “Since the beginning of electoral campaign in September, 2022, I have been mobilising and galvanising for supports for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu because of my passion for good governance.
For the March 11 governorship election, campaign activities will be over on March 9.
Therefore I want to appeal to all our royal fathers to make use of the few days remaining for campaign activities to educate their subjects and residents in the state on the need to sustain the progressives in government.
We need to work together with a mind devoid of hate and tribal and religious sentiments because we are one under God.
A vote For Governor Sanwo-Olu and Dr Obafemi Hamzat is a vote for excellence and continued positive transformation across the state.”
