To the delight of all except wailers and haters, All Progressives Congress, APC recently flagged off its presidential campaign at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State amidst large turnout of party members, loyalists and supporters.

Without doubt, Akwa-Ibom, the Land of Promise Akwa-Ibom and its people caught the APC virus as the venue for the event was full to the brim not minding that the State belongs to the opposition party, the PDP.

In an encounter with Subair Mohammed, Senior Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang speaks on the Akwa Ibom experience and the readiness of President Muhammadu Buhari on the journey to the next level.

Why did the APC choose Akwa Ibom as the host State for the flag off of its presidential campaign?

Akwa Ibom is one state the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC enjoys massive support from the people in that they are moving in droves from the ruling PDP party in the state to the APC.

Let me also state that Akwa Ibom is one of the richest state in the South-South region but in spite of this, under the PDP-led administration in the state, it is lagging behind in infrastructure investments. Despite not being an APC state, President Muhammadu Buhari has given Akwa-Ibom state a great attention and this is why, we decided to kick-start our campaign here with a promise of an improved living condition and infrastructure development to the good people of the state.

With the flag off campaign, what message is the APC sending across to the PDP government in Akwa-Ibom?

Our only message to the Akwa-Ibom state PDP is that APC is ready to take over the state come 2019. Among other things, the campaign that was held was to show our political strength, relevance and achievements both in Akwa-Ibom and the country under President Muhammadu Buhari. We were there to celebrate our achievements and to also give glad tidings to the people of Akwa Ibom state that era of misrule and infrastructure deficit are over and that they should expect the best once the state joins the progressive train in 2019.

How prepared is President Muhammadu Buhari for the journey to the next level?

There is no doubt about Mr President’s readiness for the next level. He is prepared with his integrity, character, mentally and physically and with full support from the international and regional community.

If you look at our achievements in all sectors of the economy, you cannot but agree with me that the President has performed excellently well to deserve a second term.

What impact do you think the support garnered by PDP presidential candidate would have on the victory of President Buhari at the poll?

Those that defected to the PDP did not do so for their love or support for PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. This we must get straight. Many of them joined the PDP because they couldn’t find s soft-landing and the protection they wanted against prosecution in APC.

If you take a look at the record of those that defected to PDP, you will see that many of them have criminal charges hanging on their necks. They are either standing trial or are being investigated by the EFCC. This is why they thought that if they could join the APC, they will be protected and that by being in the ruling party; they will be rated and treated above the law. But President Buhari said no to this assumption. He said being in APC does not guarantee immunity and he showed this by being neutral and not intervening in the activities of the anti-corruption agencies which recently convicted two former governors and a serving Senator who are members of the APC without an option of fine.

If a government is bent on fight corruption regardless of the status and party affiliation of the person involved then you can expect the kind of reaction we are seeing now.

So I can tell you that those that left the APC for the PDP did so because they felt they are unsecured. They were afraid because of their atrocities of the political party and the President that has zero tolerance for corruption and prosecute and convicts its corrupt members.

In summary, the fear of the consequence of their actions made them to leave the APC and join the PDP and not the love or preference for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
