‘Abuja Stadium Is Forest Of Reptiles’

Here is the stadium just renamed and now to be known as MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

While I appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for doing what I didn’t imagine he would dream of because there is no record that he was a friend of Abiola, I, however, call on him to rehabilitate the 15-year old stadium to attract and host international matches again.

I was there in September last year and did not leave with a smile. The sight was almost the state of that imposing structure at Surulere, Lagos.

Our national teams would not have run to Uyo and Asaba if Abuja was not this forest of reptiles.

In fairness to his memory, no honour should be considered too much for the man who had every opportunity to compromise June 12 mandate but chose supreme price instead.

He is the symbol and indeed hero of the democracy we have practised for two uninterrupted decades.

Now, what happens to MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta?
