Six Kidnapped Aid Workers Appeal To FG, CAN To Secure Their Freedom

Six Nigerian aid workers working for Action Against Hunger in the Northeastern state of Borno had been kidnapped by armed militant group while providing food to the vulnerable communities in the region.

The aid workers who were abducted near the town of Damasak in northeast Nigeria in a viral video cries for help from the Christian Association of Nigeria, Federal Government and Nigerians to secure their release for them not to be killed by the dreaded insurgent group.

In the video, they appealed for food as they claimed they have not been given food to eat since their abduction.

However, no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction, but sources told the Reuters news agency it was carried out by hard line fighters.

Two main armed groups operate in the region: Boko Haram, which is aligned to al-Qaeda, and a Boko Haram splinter group known as Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Speaking in the viral video, the only female of the six hostages said, “We were caught by this army called the Calipha,” she said, before asking that the Nigerian government and Action Against Hunger secure their release.

She added: “Some aid workers were caught and also asked to be released but because Nigeria did not do anything about it, they were killed. I am begging on behalf of all of us here, that Nigerians should not allow such to happen to us.”
