Following the gruesome murder of a popular traditional medicine expert, Alh Fatai Yusuf on Thursday along Igbo Ora-Eruwa road, Iseyin road by some yet to be identified assailants, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, community head of Otumara and Apapa road in the Lagos Mainland Local Government of Lagos State has said the time is right for the Southwest security outfit, Amotekun to be fully operational to curb incessant assassination in the region.

While urging the police to bring the perpetrators of the devilish act to justice, Kalejaiye appeal to the Inspector General of Police and the Oyo State commissioner of Police not to allow the investigation of the murder of Oko-Oloyun to be swept under the carpet.

He noted with regret how the police have abandoned the investigation into the murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Pa Reuben Fasoranti who was murdered on July 12, 2019.

In a press statement signed and made available to newsexplorersng.com, High Chief Kalejaiye maintained that the police have been overwhelmed by insecurity in the Southwest.

He noted that there is an urgent need for a complementary regional security outfit like the Amotekun which would assist the police and other security agencies in their fight against insecurity and other crimes.

He said, “I received with a heavy heart the death of Oko-Oloyun which occurred on Thursday afternoon. I pray for the repose of his soul. May God bear the family he left behind the courage to bear the irreparable loss.

The murder of Oko-Oloyun attests to the extent of insecurity in the Southwest which is fast assuming an alarming rate. The year 2019 witnessed the murder of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin which the police are yet to unmask her killers and many cases similar to this. This is yet another prominent son of Yoruba land who is cut down in his prime.

Again, this is a test on the competence of the police to unravelling crime and bring to justice his killers.

While they are at it, I want to appeal to the governors in Southwest to speed up with the take-off date of Amotekun to safe citizens of the region from killers who perpetrate murderous acts under different guise. Life of every individual is precious and must be protected.”
