2023: Lagos Youth Intensifies Campaign For Collection Of PVCs

Mojisola Lawal

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, youth in Lagos State have intensified campaign for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) by residents for an inclusive governance.
This was the focus of an enlightenment programme on the relevance of the collection of PVCs organised by a Lagos traditional ruler, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye on Saturday.

Various speakers at the event, including youth and leaders of the Community Development Association (CDAs) also advocated for the presidency of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Speaking at the event, Kalejaiye said the powers of the electorates lies in their vote and the only way to exercise these powers to bring about the required change in government is through the collection of the permanent voters card.

He said, “The attitude of Lagosians especially residents in our community hasn’t been encouraging towards participating in an election. So part of the reasons we put this enlightenment programme together is to create awareness on the relevance of the collection of the PVCs because it is the only legitimate tool of the electorate.

Gov Sanwo-Olu

Few weeks ago, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos State disclosed that over one million voters card are yet to be collected. The people are complaining of hardship and lack of good representative but the tools to correcting the wrong are lying fallow and unclaimed.
So with this programme, we want to let the people know that things don’t just happen by chance. We need to strive to make about the needed change and how do we achieve this?

It is by going all out to collect our voters card and vote the candidate of our choice come 2023. The first step to achieving representative government is the collection of our voters card and then voter for our preferred candidates.

As the 2023 general election is around the corner, I am urging the electorates to ensure they collect their voters card because it is the only power they have to bring about political change.”
While commending the members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) for the endorsement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office, Kalejaiye said the endorsement was performance motivated.

He said, “I want to commend the GAC members for endorsing Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu for another term of office. The endorsement was a prove that the governor has delivered on his electoral promises. Lagos State has witnessed a huge turnaround in almost every sector of its economy.

And it can only get better if Governor Sanwo-Olu is voted in to continue in office for a second term. This is why we are educating the residents on why they need to collect their voters’ cards and vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) right from the State Assembly to the presidency because a vote for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a vote for progress and positive transformations in Lagos state just as a vote for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a vote for a renewed and progressive Nigeria. “

Speaking on behalf of CDA chairmen, Chairman, Otumara Progressives Elite CDA, Ishola Abass urged Lagos residents who are 18 and above to get their PVCs, stressing that it is very essential in shaping their future.

Speaking further on the relevance of the collection of the permanent voters card, he said, “ The forthcoming elections avail every adult citizen an opportunity to make an input in the governance of the country. It gives us a right to exercise our powers as citizens. But when residents refuse to collect their PVCs, they are indirectly encouraging and endorsing electoral fraud and this would give room for incompetent politicians to emerge as our governors and representatives.

So we are urging Lagosians to collect their PVCs and vote enmasse for all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 General elections.”
