8-year-old, Nuroh Emerges FUMCI Best Hadith, Qur’an Reciter

A 8-year-old Nuroh Nasir has emerged best reciter in the hadith and Qur’an categories at the 2019 edition of the Faith Unites Muslim Charity Initiatives (FUMCI) annual Children award for excellence in Qur’an recitation and Islamic practice held in Lagos on Sunday, December 22.
The competition, 5th in its series had contestants competing for prizes in five categories of Adab, Salat, Fiqh, Qur’an, hadith and over all best category.
Speaking on the topic, relevance of good companionship in Islam, guest lecturer, Lagos State former Commissioner for Home Affairs, Sheikh Abdul-Lateef Abdul-Hakeem admonished participants and parents to be dutiful to their Creator.
“What kind of friends do you keep?” Abdul-Lateef quizzed?
He added that “The kind of friends we keep tells a lot on how steadfast we are about our religion. If you discover that those you walk with are devilish in nature, are liars, back-bite and have no fear of Allah in them, ensure you move away from such people. True believers rely solely on Allah. I want to implore every one of us to choose companions that will lead us to the path of the righteous.”
In his remark, Chief Imam of Abdul-Azeez central mosque, Ebute-Meta area of Lagos state, Sheik Muhammad Mahmud Yaqub commended FUMCI for promoting Islam and Qur’an knowledge through its various programmes.
While charging parents to invest more in Islamic and Qur’an knowledge of their children, Imam Yaqub appreciates winners in all the five categories particularly in the Qur’an and hadith categories for exceptional display of talent in Quran recitation and commentary on Hadith.
Having spent 17 years of his life learning and teaching the glorious Qur’an in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sheik Mahmud Yaqub, who showered cash gifts on the winners, said the competition could be likened to the ones he had attended in Makkah.
He said: “In the last 17 years, I have not had the opportunity of attending Qur’an competition that has substance and is well-organised like the FUMCI’s children award. Reciters in the Qur’an and Hadith categories are superb. They remind me of my days in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
“I am really touched by their performance especially the winner of the Qur’an and Hadith category – Nuroh Nasir. She and Umar Akinola really impressed me. I am so overwhelmed by their performances. Nuroh exhibited high level of confidence in her recitation. I pray Almighty to continue to guide and guard them. I urge all parents to make a priority learning of Qur’an and Hadith for their children.”
Responding to questions from newsmen, Amir of the organisation, Ustadh Muiz Zubayr said one of the cores of FUMCI is to propagate the beauty of Islam and promote Quran knowledge among our children.
Amir Zubayr identified lack of adequate understanding of the Qur’an and hadiths of the Prophet of Islam as the cause of moral decadence among Muslim children and youths.
He however encourages parents and guardians to enrol their children and wards in Quran institutions that truly promote the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
Other winners in each of the categories include: Zainab Akinola won the first prize in Salat, Tijani Aishat won the first prize in Fiqh and Adab categories, and Zainab Akinola who came second in the Hadith category and first in Salat category won the over-all prize of 300L LG Fridge with other consolation prizes.
