Mojisola Lawal
Traditional head of Otumara community, Apapa road, Ojo-oniyun and its environs in the Lagos Mainland Local Government of Lagos state, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has described the lifetime achievement award given to the Chairperson of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Hon. Rashidat Omolola Essien by His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. AbdulFatai Aromire as an honour well deserved.

Kalejaiye observed that since Hon. Essien assumed office as Chairman of the council, the entire landscape of Lagos Mainland Local Government has witnessed a huge positive turnaround.

He said, “Almost every street in the council has felt the impact of Hon. Essien’s administration. Talk of road and drainage construction and maintenance, roads and drainages in the council have greatly improved. The ongoing interlocking at Jebba Street, Herbert Macaulay and the recently completed road construction in Ondo Street are examples of these and many more.

In the history of investment in education and youth empowerment in the council, no administration has done better than Hon. Essien. She has invested a lot in the future of Lagos Mainland youths by way of gifting to them JAMB forms and vocational training.

Her administration has placed more emphasis on entrepreneurship and she is walking the talk.”

While commending His Royal Majesty for his recognition of the contribution of Hon. Essien to the development of culture and tradition, High Chief Kalejaiye said leadership is the ability to impact positively on the lives of the led.

This, according to him, Hon. Essien has been able to achieve as the council Chairman.
Kalejaiye however appeal to Hon. Essien to use her good office to bring to life the construction of Senior Secondary School residents of Ebute Metta (west) have been clamouring for.

He added that Hon. Essien would forever have her name written in the hearts of both adults and children of Ebute Metta (west) if this could be achieved during her tenure.

He said, “In Lagos Mainland Local Government, it is a known fact that we don’t have a Senior Secondary School. Our children, upon the completion of their Junior Secondary education at Ilogbo Junior Secondary School are transferred to schools in Surulere to complete their secondary education.

On behalf of all residents in Lagos Mainland, I am appealing to Hon. Essien to use her good office to ensure that the Senior Secondary School which for a very long time has been the community’s dream project is realised.

If this is achieved, the daily suffering of our children and the extra spending parents spent on transportation would be over and our amiable chairperson would forever have her name written in gold in the hearts of parents, guardians and children of the district.”
