Kalejaiye condoles with victims of Lagos gas explosion

Akin Olayemi
Lagos community head, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has advised government at all levels to take measures to prevent a recurrence of such destructive incidence.

Kalejaiye gave the advice following Sunday March 15 gas explosion which led to countless loss of lives and destruction of property in the Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

In his condolence message to victims of the explosion made available to newsexplorersng.com, Kalejaiye cautioned that residents should try as much as possible to avoid erecting structures near gas pipelines or high tension cables.

According to him, life is sacred and too precious to be wasted due to avoidable errors.

He said, “The gas pipeline has been laid for a long period of time before people started building houses in that community. The incidence is unfortunate but the Lagos State Government must ensure that those houses that are built under high tension wires and near gas pipeline are evacuated and relocated because lives is too precious to be wasted.

While I pray to God to grant the deceased eternal rest and grant their families the strength to bear the loss, Kalejaiye urged the Lagos State Government to ensure strict compliance to the State’s building regulatory laws and rules guiding gas and petroleum pipelines protection.

He noted that, “The Lagos State Government should enforce its building regulatory laws before buildings are built and ensure that the required kilometre space is observed. This could have been avoided if precautionary measures have been adhered to.

Government agencies should be alive to their responsibilities. Before the explosion, there was a video of gas leakage trending on the social media. If this has been reported and the agencies concerned acted accordingly, the explosion and the number of casualties could have been avoided.

I am therefore appealing to the government to assist in building succour to victims of the explosion. Let me use this medium to appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the N2billion relieve grant his administration has approved for the victims. I pray Lagos state never experience such destructive incidence again.”
