Leah Sharibu @ 17: Women Arise calls for child protection, accountability

Women Arise has demanded for accountability from government on issues of child protection and friendliness.
The president of the rights organisation, Joe Okei-Odumakin disclosed this in a statement to celebrate Leah Sharibu, one of the students of the Government Girls College that was kidnapped in Chibok, Borno state in 2014 as she turns 17 year old in Boko Haram captivity.
According to Joe, every single day Leah spends in captivity is an indictment of the Nigerian government that has been unable to fulfil its promises and the purpose of government.
She alleged that it is a sad commentary that supposedly conscionable Nigerians appear to have abandoned Leah and her family to their fate.
This, Joe said “ought not to have been so. The struggle for Leah’s freedom should have been upbeat and not tepid. I therefore lend my voice to those of other freedom loving patriots across the globe to celebrate our darling Leah Sharibu as she turns 17.
On this occasion of her birthday, may we demand that we all re-dedicate ourselves anew and afresh to the worthy cause of working assiduously for Leah Sharibu’s release from Boko Haram captivity.
We also demand more accountability from government on issues of child protection and friendliness. Leah Sharibu and the case of Chibok girls, who remain perpetually in captivity since 2014 give indications that Nigeria itself may have become a giant prison of a sort for her children.
There shall be no relenting until freedom is won for Leah and all the others in one form of insidious captivity or another. We wait for our heroine day and night!”
