CBAAC Trains Oredo Federal Constituents In Basket Making, Tie, Dye, Others

The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) has trained thousands of Oredo Federal constituents in Benin City on basket making, Tie & Dye, Coral bead making in a bid to reduce the unemployment situation in the country.
The Participants were awarded Certificates and starter kits to enhance their creativities and sharpen their skills in the arts of Beads making, basket/hair weaving and the techniques of tie & dye, and also encourage them to deploy and channel their energies to productive ventures that would enable them attain their potentials in life.
The Training entitled: Deploying Arts and Culture as Tools for Poverty Eradication in Our Societies through Training on Arts of Basket making /Hair Weaving, Coral Bead making and the Techniques of Tie & Dye, took place on Tuesday in Benin City, Edo state.
Speaking on the training, The Director-General, CBAAC, Hon. (Mrs) Olubunmi Amao noted that it is not just to train, teach and enlighten participants on the importance of culture but to also expose them to the varied elements of the country’s cultural heritage that could serve as a means of securing gainful employment.
The DG explained that nations of the world have come to understand that they can only be relevant if they compete in the global market place on areas where they have competitive advantages in this time of globalization.
She stated that Black and African peoples and indeed Nigeria must also compete based on her areas of strength, which is the country’s rich and diverse cultural heritage in order to attain the desired development.

“It is a unique event carefully put together and structured not just to train, teach and enlighten participants on the importance of culture but to also expose them to the varied elements of our cultural heritage such as Basket / Hair weaving, Coral Bead making and the techniques of tie & dye (our indigenous fabric) could serve as a means of securing gainful employment thereby eradicating hunger and poverty ravaging our society.
“In this era of globalization where countries are competing economically, nations of the world have come to understand that they can only be relevant if they compete in the global market place on areas where they have competitive advantages.
“To foster development, Black and African peoples and indeed Nigeria must also compete based on her areas of strength, which is our rich and diverse cultural heritage.
“It is therefore on this premise that we are organizing this training and workshop on Coral bead making, Basket/Hair weaving and tie & dye which are highly priced commodities of trade.
“By this also, CBAAC shall be fulfilling her statutory responsibility of promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the Black and African peoples for better appreciation.” She stated.
Meanwhile, Former Special Adviser in Oyo State revealed that Coral beads making, Basket/Hair weaving including tie & dye are some of our material cultural resources transferred from our forebears to the present generation.
Hon. Olubunmi said the cultural products and traditions are not only unique and beautiful, but symbols of the country’s cultural heritage that provided means of livelihood to its forebears, adding that Nigerians must continue to appreciate and harness them for the good and wellbeing of their people.
“It is gratifying to note that Coral beads making, Basket/Hair weaving including tie & dye are some of our material cultural resources transferred from our forebears to the present generation.
“These cultural products and traditions are not only unique and beautiful, they are symbols of our cultural heritage that provided means of livelihood to our forebears, and we must continue to appreciate and harness them for the good and wellbeing of our people.” Hon. Olubunmi stated.
