Democracy Day: Community head tasks politicians on human capital development, infrastructure projects

Akin Olayemi

As Nigeria marks the June 12 democracy day, head of Otumara community, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye has urged elected public officers to invest more invest excessively in human capital and infrastructure development for the electorate to feel the impact and dividends of democratic rule.

Kalejaiye gave the charge in his speech which he made available to newsexplorersng.com to mark the June 12 democracy day celebration.

According to him, June 12, 1993 is symbolic in the democratic history of the country.

He said for the sake of what the acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election stood for, he urged politicians to emulate the political sagacity and commitment to national development of the late politician, Chief MKO Abiola who died in incarceration under the maximum ruler General Sanni Abacha.

He stated, “It is being 27 years since the annulment of the June 12 Presidential election. I commend President Muhammadu Buhari for recognising and according June 12 a national status. This will go a long in entrenching the values of democratic rule in both the politicians and the electorates.

However, I want to urge the political class to learn from the selflessness and dedication of Chief MKO Abiola to national growth and development. He was a pillar of sports. He was a philanthropist and above all, a patriotic citizen who invested his wealth in Nigerians.

This crop of present day politicians should be same for their names to be written in the sand of time. Nigeria is rich therefore her citizens have no business being poor if our political leaders do the needful.”

Away from the democracy day celebration, Kalejaiye congratulates the Ojora of Ijora kingdom, Oba Fatai Aromire on his 26th year anniversary on the throne of his forefathers.

Kalejaiye attests to the fact that Ijora kingdom and its environs under Oba Aromire have witnessed a positive turnaround since the emergence of Oba Aromire as the traditional head of the kingdom.

He said, “Oba Fatai Aromire has clearly defined what a true and humane leader is and should be. He put his people first and that is why the kingdom has been peace and secured.

On behalf of myself and the people of my community, I congratulate Oba Aromire and pray to almighty God to grant him long life in the service of humanity. May he live long on the throne of his forefathers.”
